Pumpkin Party Halloween Food: Pick Your Recipes

In keeping with the orange/pumpkin theme, the following is a list of pumpkin recipes and orange-flavored/colored foods which you can prepare for your upcoming Halloween bash.

Orange "Jack-o-Lanterns"

Ingredients:

  • Several seedless naval oranges
  • Other fruit: grapes, bananas, peaches, mandarin oranges, pineapple, strawberries, etc.

Directions:

1. Slice the tops off the oranges about 1" down from the top. Scoop out the pulp and place in a bowl.

2. Cut up the other fruit into bite size pieces and mix together with the orange pieces.

3. Draw pumpkin faces on all the oranges. Fill the oranges with the fruit mixture. Stick plastic white spoons into each orange for eating.

Orange Jelly Delight

Ingredients:

  • 1 package vanilla instant pudding
  • 1 package orange jello
  • whipped cream

Directions:

1. Mix vanilla pudding according to package directions. Chill.

2. Mix Jell-O according to package directions. Place in an 8" x 8" square pan. Chill until set.

3. Cut the Jell-O into 1" cubes, divide the cubes into 2 bowls. Divide the pudding in half as well. Using the first half of the pudding, scoop pudding into 8 parfait glasses. Add a layer of Jell-O, another layer of pudding and a final layer of Jell-O.

4. Scoop whipped cream on top. Top with an orange candy or gummy bear. Insert a long handled plastic parfait spoon into each parfait glass.

Chocolate Pumpkin Cakes

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate cake mix
  • White icing
  • Orange and yellow food coloring
  • Black licorice strings

Directions:

1. Mix and bake cake according to package directions in muffin tins to make cupcakes.

2. Either make a creamy white icing or buy a can of icing. Set ¼ of the icing aside. Mix in orange food coloring in the remaining icing.

3. Spread the orange icing over cooled cupcakes. With black licorice strings, create the outline of a pumpkin face.

4. Mix in the yellow food coloring in the small batch of icing you had put aside. Spread it within the licorice lines to make a "glowing" face.

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Ingredients:

  • Pumpkinseeds (all the ones you scooped from your jack-o-Lanterns)
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • ¼ cup cooking oil

Directions:

1. Wash seeds thoroughly of any remaining pulp. Pat dry on paper towels.

2. In a bowl combine pumpkinseeds, oil and salt. Mix thoroughly.

3. Spread seeds out on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 300 degrees F. for 30 minutes.

Jack-o-Lantern Punch

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
  • 1 bottle of soda water
  • ¾ cup frozen grapefruit juice, thawed
  • ice cubes

For the adults add:

  • ¾ cup light rum
  • 1.4 cup orange liqueur

Directions:

1. In a large pitcher, mix orange juice and grapefruit juice concentrates. (For the adults also add the rum and the orange liqueur).

2. Gently stir in the soda water. Add ice cubes to chill. Serve at once.
