Selecting Indoor Halloween Decorations For Your Party

A lot of folks love to completely decorate their home for Halloween especially if they're throwing a party to celebrate this holiday. There's a wide choice of indoor Halloween decorations that you can use, ranging from cute and adorable to gruesome and nightmarish. Here are a few suggestions that are appropriate no matter what level of decorating you choose.

To start with, certain Halloween props are what would be termed "common place" and are usually expected in a general party atmosphere. These would include: skeletons, cobwebs, tombstones, black and orange tablewear, etc.

Shine a Light On Your Decor

Illuminate certain props such as a skeleton, coffin, or a special scene with black lights or colored lightbulbs. You can use a swing-arm lamp so that it makes it easier to position the light in the direction you want. Black lights will cause any white or yellow colors found on the prop to glow eerily.

Cobwebs, Cobwebs, Cobwebs

Buy the packaged cobwebs and start with a small clump at a time. Stretch the webbing out thinly (so it looks more realistic) and drap it over lamps,

furniture and high up in corners. You may wish to add plastic spiders here and there... however if you know of anyone who will be at your house is has a fear of spiders, it's best not to use them. Even fake ones can really terrify a person with Arachnaphobia, which is not a funny situation.

Creepy Hands

If you have a food table set up, why not add a creepy crawling hand attached to a bowl or served up on a plate. Use rubber gloves (found in the cleaning section of most stores). Stuff with cotten batting or fill with water and secure the end with a tight rubber band. Paint the glove a flesh color and add fake nails to the fingers. Give it a more gruesome look by adding fake blood and a bit of a greenish tinge of paint here and there to look like bruises.

Bubbling Cauldron

Set a black cauldron on the table and fill with water. Add dry ice (be careful with this) to the water and voila... the smoke will appear to make the cauldron a boiling pot of witch's brew. You can also elect to use a mist maker instead.

Sinister Signs

Create some sinister looking signs and hang them throughout the house, such as on the bathroom door warning people about entering.

Creepy Closet

Empty out a small closet in a darkened hallway or spare bedroom. Stuff pants, shirts, and a pair of gloves with newspaper and pin the items together to create a figure. Add a stuffed mask for the head but attached yellow florescent tape to the inside of the eyes. Either hang the figure in the closet or place a small chair inside and set the figure on the chair. Position the closet door so that it is slightly open and set up a black light flashlight within the room so it picks up and illuminates the glowing eyes of your figure. Add a tape recorder with a tape of creepy sounds hidden somewhere in the room. As guests walk by they'll hear the noises and see the glowing eyes within the closet. Note: This may be too scary for young children.

Balloons, Streamers, and other Party Decorations

For a children's party, keep the creepiness to a low level and decorate using orange, black or sculptured balloons, streamers, Halloween paper plates and napkins, etc. Hang up things such as homemade "sheet" ghosts, some bats, and carved pumpkins (use flashlights for lighting). You can decorate your tables with Halloween themed confetti, and a creepy centerpiece.
