Halloween Party Invitations:
Irresistible Invites For Monsters Young and Old

When it comes to Halloween party invitations you have three options: a) you can buy invitations at the store (hopefully they have some that match your theme idea; b) you can craft them by hand being as creative and elaborate as you like; 3) you can create some very cool invites using a computer graphics program and printing them out yourself.

Personally, I like to make my cards by hand or use a graphics program (like with the one to the left) when I come up with some interesting design ideas. However, before you do anything, there are a few key points that you need to address first.

What is the theme of your party?

Yes, Halloween is a "theme" in and of itself. However, if you want your Halloween party to really stand out, choose a sub-theme, such as ghosts, famous monsters, or a witches gathering to focus on. In that way, your Halloween party invitations, decorations, food, etc. will be complimentary to this particular theme idea... and give your invited guests an idea on what type of costumes to wear.

Choose the date and time of your party.

What day you have your party... and the time it will be held... depends on who the party is for. If it's a children's party, consider having it late in the afternoon or very early in the evening - either the day before Halloween or on Halloween itself (in lieu of going out trick or treating). When kids are involved, keep it short, no more than two hours max (write the beginning and ending times on the invitations so parent's know when to come pick their kids up). Keep in mind that children need time to wind down before going to bed, especially if it's a school night.

For an adult party, obviously it will start later in the evening, preferably Halloween night. If this falls on a week night (when people have to work the next day) it's best to hold your party on the weekend before. Eight o'clock is the "usual" time given for such parties, knowing that most people won't begin to show up until somewhat later.

Other items needed for your Halloween party invitations.

Once you decide on whether you will be purchasing your invitations or making them yourself, you will still need some additional items (if you don't already have them), such as envelopes to fit your invites and stamps for mailing. Be sure to obtain the addresses and phone numbers of all the guests you plan on asking.

A nice extra touch is to put a sticker on the back of each envelope reflecting the theme of the party. Also, be sure to include the following information on your invitation:

  • What the theme of the party is
  • Where it is being held
  • Who is/are the host(s)
  • Suggestions on what to wear for costumes
  • Directions and map if needed
  • A request for people to call you as to whether they are coming or not
