Tradition calls for some form of feasting on Halloween food - whether it is just some finger foods and snacks put out around the house, or a full sit-down dinner.

Anyway you look at it, this quaint old festival with its strange superstitions has become an occasion for social entertaining. In turn, Halloween food and recipes have become a much sought after item, and no Halloween party is a success without a properly planned menu.

If you are planning on hosting a Halloween party, you will most likely be searching for a variety of food recipes that are associated with this particular holiday. The most obvious choices are traditional Halloween recipes made with pumpkins, such as: pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies, and so on.

Apples are also a fruit that are in season at this time of the year. Not only were apples used in various recipes served on All Hallows Eve, but they were also extensively used in foretelling the future.

But let's move away from our more customary North American dishes and take a look at what other countries serve around the end of October and the beginning two days of November.

Traditional Halloween Recipes Around The World

In different parts of the world, certain Halloween food dishes are traditionally prepared and eaten.

If you are in Mexico at this time of the year, you would be served what is called Bread of the Dead (Pan de Muerto), in celebration of Mexico's Day of the Dead (November 1st and 2nd). This bread is often shaped into skulls or baked as round loaves with strips of dough on the surface to resemble bones. Certainly a perfect choice for your own Halloween shindig.

Sicily has the custom of creating a marzipan that is purportedly a "gift" given to the children from the ghosts of their ancestors.

Two traditional foods are served in Ireland - Barm Brack and Colcannon. These Halloween food dishes are commonly used to foretell future marriages, as each dish has a ring buried inside and whoever finds the ring will soon be married.

In Britain, Soul Cakes is the popular Halloween treat.
