Ghost Halloween Party Decorations

Are you planning on having a Halloween ghost party theme this year? Then make all the spooks and spirits feel welcomed in your home by decorating with these ghost Halloween party decorations.

Cheesecloth Ghosts

Create a form using a pop bottle with a round styrofoam ball pushed onto the neck of the bottle. This will form the head. On the top third of the bottle, punch two holes on opposite sides of each other and insert two pencils or two short dowls as arms.

Soak a length of cheesecloth in fabric stiffner and drape over your form and arranging your ghost however you like (just be sure not to pull it in around the neck). Let dry. Carefully remove the cheesecloth from the form. Paint on large black eyes and a round mouth to finish your figure.

Ghost Doorknob Hanger

Welcome spooks and spirits into your home with an inviting doorknob hanger. Using a piece of black cardboard, draw a template that is a rectangle shape about 4" wide and 6" long. Off of one end, continue up and around in a hook shape (this is what will fit over the doorknob). Cut out your template and deocrate with white ghost stickers or cut out ghost shapes. If desired, use scrapbooking letters to write "Boo" or "Happy Haunting" or whatever you choose on the hanger. Then hang it from your front door.

By the way, these would also make great ghost party favors for kids.

Ghost Chairs

If you are having a dinner party with friends and wish to use a ghost theme, then this is a wonderful way to decorate your chairs.

First, measure the width and height of the back of your chairs. Cut material to size, adding 2" to the length and width. You'll need two pieces of clother per chair. Once cut, put the right sides together and sew up two sides and the top using a 1/4" seam. Be sure to leave the bottom open. You can hem the bottom opening if you wish or just leave it as is.

Turn the fabric right side out. Cut two large oval eyes and one oval mouth from black felt. Attach to one side of the white fabric, either by sewing it on or using a fabric glue. Slide the covers over the chairs with the ghost faces facing out to greet your guests as they come to the table.

Ghastly Ghosts

For this you will need:

Several butternut squashes
White and black acrylic paints
Black marker

Wash and dry the butternut squashes. Paint each of the squashes white with two to three coats of paint. Let dry. Using your black marker, draw the outline of different ghostly faces on each squash. Fill in with black paint. Line these ghastly spooks up on a buffet food table, along a fireplace mantle, or at the entrance to your home.

Ghosts In The Cornfield Centerpiece

Using an old flat plate or other container, use a glue gun to glue cornhusks in stalks all around the container. Add a couple of small ghosts (plastic, cardboard... whatever you choose to use). Add a few small plastic pumpkins also scattered within the stalks. Once done, you have a quickly made centerpiece for your buffet table.

Dancing Ghosts Centerpiece

Cut a simple ghost pattern from paper that is approximately 4" high and 2 1/2" wide. Fold heavy white paper back and forth like a fan, making sure each fold is 2 1/2" wide as well. Trace your ghost pattern on the top fold of the fan and cut through all layers, but not through the folded sections where the "ghost hands" join. Basically, you're cutting out a paper doll string. Depending on how large you want your centerpiece to be, you may need to make two of these.

Join the ends of the hands together so it makes a circle. On a pie plate or other round plate, place moss, some small pumpkin decorations, and, if desired, a couple of small plastic ghosts. Add a branch "tree" that's about 10" tall and "planted" in a small clay pot and place in the center of the plate. Decorate your tree with cobwebs and some paper hanging ghosts. Carefully place your dancing ghosts around the plate and set on the table.

If desired, add a votive candle in a glass holder in the center and offset your tree to one side. Punch out "ghost eyes" on each of your paper ghosts to allow the candlelight to shine through. Just be sure to keep any of the hanging decor on your tree away from the flame. An alternative would be to use a battery powered light instead.
