10 Things Monsters Like to Do: A Brief Overview of Monster CultureIt’s Halloween time again. For many, that means it’s time to think of some fun ways to enjoy the whole Halloween season. Though for us humans, it’s not always easy to think of new and spooky ideas each year. Monsters, on the other hand, such as vampires, werewolves, ghosts and the like, have it easy because their entire lifestyle is Halloween-themed. Sympathetic to our human dilemmas, some monsters have gotten together to share some of their everyday culture with those of us in need of some spooky advice. Here is the list they’ve come up with: 10 Things Monsters Like to Do: For home décor, monsters prefer to keep a ghostly theme. (1) No closet is complete without a skeleton hanging from a coat hanger, hook or light bulb string. Hanging skeletons are also placed in the basement and attic. (2) Pictures on the walls cast a ghoulish scene. Framed Halloween cards of graveyards, haunted castles, moon-lit nights, etc. usually line the staircases and hallways. Halloween posters and even framed autumn scenes from calendars are also common for the living room and bedrooms. (3) For the outside décor, many monsters have their own haunted graveyard or pumpkin patch. These reside in the front yard, backyard or both. They are usually lit up at night with lanterns and surrounded by a stone wall or wooden fence. Some monsters are also big on keeping collections of monster literature, film and music. (4) An ever-growing library of books can consist of such topics as local hauntings, ghost stories and the histories of various species of monsters. (5) A collection of scary movies and Halloween specials are fun for movie marathon nights, and (6) a cd collection of spooky music and scary sound effects makes for great background noise for those relaxing nights under the moonlight. (7)Another popular monster collection is having a wide assortment of Halloween costumes fit to wear to any spooky gathering. Monsters tend to keep their array of garments in anything from treasure chests to a haunted closet or wardrobe. Many monsters also find interest in taking in monster culture. (8) Visiting towns and countries with a haunted history always makes for a great vacation. Destinations such as Salem, Massachusetts, Gettysburg, Virginia (the most haunted place in America) and Transylvania, Romania are regular outings for monsters worldwide each year. (9)Haunted cemeteries are fun for day trips. Here monsters can meet up with their old friends the ghosts and zombies, as well as view the different styles of tombstones throughout the ages. Last on our list, many monsters like to keep a book of memories of their travels and adventures. (10) A spider-web laced photo album or scrapbook traces midnight outings, travels and ever-changing home decorations from year to year. Everything from photos, stone-rubbings and tickets to the local monster parties are saved to share with monster friends and family. The monsters who contributed to this list hope that they have helped make your Halloween season a great one with some haunting new ideas. With a little inspiration from monster culture, Halloween can always have new and scary surprises that can transport humans into another realm of frightening fun.
